Family Values and Good Old-Fashioned Service
Trice was established July 1, 1959 and is quickly approaching 60 years. Trice was originally founded by a man named Robert Trice from Denver. At the time, Trice sold everything from luggage and chainsaws, to blenders and cameras and was actually one of the larger electronic dealers in Colorado at that time. In the 1960s, a small jewelry chain in Ogden, Utah purchased Trice Jewelers from Robert Trice. They hired a young energetic 22-year-old named Ralph Klomp and asked him to move to Denver with his new wife Anne, and run the operation. Ralph ran the store while Anne did the books and accounting.
The owners and Ralph decided it would be mutually beneficial to form a partnership in the ownership of Trice. Just a few years after the partnership was finalized, Ralph and Anne bought out the partner and then continued to build and grow the business by moving away from selling other products like cameras and electronics and focus exclusively on fine jewelry. Ralph just completed his 50th year in the jewelry industry and is still going strong.
The original location was on 4029 E. Colfax in Denver. Trice then moved to University Hills shopping center on Colorado Boulevard, where it operated for over 37 years. In 2010, Trice purchased land and built their new free-standing jewelry store at the entrance of the newly developed Streets of SouthGlenn in Centennial, CO.
Colorado Born and Raised
Justin Klomp is now president of Trice Jewelers and has been with Trice since 2001. Justin is a second-generation jeweler working at Trice. After local high school at Cherry Creek, Justin went on to get his degree in accounting and information systems from BYU. After college, he was recruited to work in the D.C. area in the information and technology sector. After a few years in DC, his father (Ralph) asked him to help set up email and an automated computer system at the store. Justin loved the idea and came back to Colorado to help automate the business. He never left again!
Justin’s vision for Trice was to build a free-standing store where the brand became a destination for customers. In 2010, Trice built their own building and designed it exactly how they wanted it. “It is a dream come true and we’ve had an amazing response from our community, said Justin. We pride ourselves in serving our customers with strong family values and good old-fashioned service.”
